(aside) I've wanted to have the abilty to attach popt alias/exec to  
argv[0] from
poptrc configuration using fnmatch(3) for years. Only legacy forward  
compatibility has stopped me ...

For portability to the fnmatch(3) deprived, I'll work up a strncmp match
to handle a trailing "*" splat without needing fnmatch(3). That should
cover the common usage case.
