I really don't know how much experience anyone has trying to make
vendor neutral SRPMS (I suspect Ralf has a lot more than me) but in
JPackage it's one of the things we wrestle with constantly.  My last
feeble attempt to deal with the problem was to try to find out where
things diverge macro-wise (which is really the easiest part of the
problem).  I have no idea if it's of use to anyone, but the doc I came
up with at the time was:
