Mixing *.rpm from linux <-> mac is a bit risky.
Might work for PHP, dunno.
If you install from *.rpm, erasing is dirt simple reliable doing
rpm -evv foo
But you can extract files from payload manually using rpm2cpio:
rpm2cpio foo*.rpm | cpio -dim
There's a shell script version called rpm2cpio.sh around as well.
